GESIS Methods Hub Social Media Datasprint @ SMAD 2026
In the Datasprint, participants work in groups in a fast-paced event to explore one of several available exciting social media datasets. The Methods Hub provides tools to load and analyze these datasets and online environments for experimentation. Bringing an own laptop for collaboration with group members is required to participate in the event.
Selected Datasets
Particpants can work on one of these datasets during the Datasprint. The datasets will be pitched at the start of the Datasprint.
- Munich Google Maps Reviews. Reviews with translations and metadata focusing on places on interest in Munich (food and drink, recreation, shopping, services, facilities, ...; 6.7 million reviews).
- Reddit StopGaming and Addiction. Reddit conversations on these two subreddits covering the years from 2020-01-01 to 2024-12-31 (86,000 records).
- Tweetplomacy 23. Digital communicative interaction between international political leaders, peer groups and citizens in the wake of three major global crises (2018 to 2023; 14 billion tweets).
Important Dates
- 2026-02-03. Deadline for dataset proposals.
- 2026-02-27. Deadline for registration at the main conference.
- 2026-03-17. Datasprint kickstarts the Social Media Access Days 2026 (German National Library, Frankfurt am Main, Germany).
